New writing up on Yahoo!’s Year in Review 2011

I busted my butt and wrote four pieces for Yahoo!’s Year in Review 2011. (I also copy edited a gazillion articles for it, but that’s just not as glamorous, is it?)

My first piece is about Casey Anthony (who was the second most searched-for term on Yahoo! this year). I wrote another piece about good ol’ Casey, as well, but the focus of this one is her insane trial and verdict. My third piece is about journalist Lara Logan, who was sexually assaulted in Cairo and then alternately shamed and praised for her handling of it. Last but not least, my fourth article is a bit fluffier, about the tragic end of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show. Go get reading!

New piece about internet addiction up at The Fix

Hola, my friends. (I think there may be all of one or two people reading this blog, but hey. Beggars can’t be choosers!)

I wanted to let you know I have a new article up at the wonderful, new-ish, addiction-focused web magazine TheFix.com. My piece is about internet addiction — more specifically social-media addiction, and whether recovering drug/alcohol addicts are more likely to become compulsive around their use of social networking sites.

Read it and then leave a comment!  It only has 2 comments so far, so it could use your love and affection.  Thanks!

Confession: I have another book coming out!

So, in my heaps of free time when I wasn’t working on Madonna & Me, I was working on another book! A nonfiction pop-culture book about the apocalypse!  Yes, I’m serious. It’s called The End: 50 Apocalyptic Visions From Pop Culture That You Should Know About…Before It’s Too Late.  It’s out this July from awesome San Francisco publisher Zest Books. You can pre-order it here!  And I’ll give you more details later, but of course.

New piece up at XOJane

I’ve wanted to write for a Jane Pratt venture for a zillion years now. Like many women my age, I grew up with (read: was obsessed with) Sassy magazine as a pre-teen. It was so smart and so honest and so fun and so refreshingly non-condescending. I’m glad I finally got to write something — about  a sad subject: a guy I went out with who was later murdered — for Jane P.’s newish website XOJane. Check it out.
